if you think the secret to a flawless skin lies only in the expensive ingredients proffered by your local beauty clinic or spa, think again! Everything you need in order to make incredible DIY face mask can be found right in your own kitchen- and here are 5 great recipes to start with…

1. Oatmeal Facial Masks

If it’s a quick pick-me-up you need to look and feel better, treat yourself an oatmeal facial. Simply combine 1/2 a cup of hot (not boiling) water with 1/3 cup of oatmeal. Once the water and oatmeal have settled for 2-3 minutes, fold in 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons of honey, and 1 small egg white. Apply a thin layer of the mask to your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and reap the rewards.

2. Egg Facial Masks

For a little pampering, grab an egg from the refrigerator. If your skin is dry and needs moisturizing, separate the egg and beat only the yolk. For oily skin, use the egg white and add some lemon or honey. For normal skin, use the entire egg. Apply the beaten egg to your face, put your feet up and wait for 30 minutes. Rinse off and enjoy your new visage.

3. Milk Facial Masks

Another way to give yourself a fancy “spa” facial at home is to make a mask by mixing 1/4 cup of powdered milk with enough water to form a thick paste. Coat your face thoroughly with the mixture, let it dry completely, and then rinse it off with warm water.

4. Banana Facial Masks

Why opt for Botox if you have bananas? This fruit is a natural, homemade facial mask that will moisturize your skin, leaving it looking and feeling softer. Mash up a ripe, medium-sized banana into a smooth paste and gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10-20 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

5. Yogurt Facial Masks

If your skin needs a good cleanse and your pores need tightening up, smear some plain yogurt on your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes. If you need a more invigorating mask, mix 1 teaspoon of plain yogurt with the juice from 1/4 slice of orange, some of the orange pulp, and 1 teaspoon of aloe. Leave the mask on for at least 5 minutes before rinsing it off. Your face will feel rejuvenated and fresh.

Who would have thought that one could have such fun and enjoy an inexpensive beauty treatment whilst in the kitchen? Yip, it’s not just the place for tedious chores!
