What is RPL™ ?

The technology behind lasting hair reduction. Learn how Sensica's patented RPL™ system reads your skin tone in real time and adjusts energy output automatically , for safe, effective treatment across skin tones I–V.

What Is RPL?

Smart light that adapts to your skin

RPL™ , Reactive Pulsed Light , is Sensica's patented advancement of traditional IPL technology. While standard IPL devices fire the same pulse of light regardless of where it hits, RPL uses a built-in dual-sensor system to scan your skin tone before every single flash.

In milliseconds, the sensor reads your skin's melanin level and automatically adjusts the energy intensity to the optimal setting. Darker areas receive a gentler pulse; lighter areas receive a stronger one. This real-time reactivity means RPL can safely treat a wider range of skin tones , Fitzpatrick types I through V , while maximizing effectiveness at the hair follicle.

The result: faster hair reduction with fewer sessions, less discomfort, and built-in safety that traditional IPL simply can't match.

How It Works

The RPL process

Step 1

Skin Tone Scan

Before every pulse, the dual-sensor system reads your skin's melanin level. If your skin tone or hair color isn't suitable, the device simply won't flash , providing a built-in safety check with every use.

Step 2

Energy Adjusts Automatically

Based on the skin reading, RPL instantly calibrates the pulse intensity to the optimal level , strong enough to reach the hair follicle, gentle enough to protect your skin. No manual settings required.

Step 3

Follicle is Disabled

The calibrated light pulse targets melanin in the hair shaft, heating the follicle and disrupting its growth cycle. Over successive treatments, the follicle produces thinner, finer hair , until regrowth slows dramatically.

Sessions are fast , both legs take about 10–15 minutes with the large treatment window. Smaller areas like underarms or bikini line take just 1–3 minutes. Most users see visible hair reduction after 3–4 sessions, with full results appearing over 8–12 weeks.

The Problem

Why traditional IPL falls short

Standard IPL devices use a fixed energy output , the same intensity for every flash, regardless of your skin tone or the area being treated. This creates two problems:

On lighter skin: the pulse may not be strong enough to effectively reach darker or finer hair follicles, leading to slow or inconsistent results. On darker skin: the same pulse can be too intense, risking burns, discoloration, or discomfort , which is why most traditional IPL devices are limited to skin types I–III only.

Even within a single treatment area, your skin tone can vary. An inner thigh is lighter than the outer leg; recently sun-exposed areas are different from covered ones. A one-size-fits-all pulse can't account for these variations , leaving some spots undertreated and others at risk.

The Solution

Real-time skin sensing

RPL™ solves this with a reactive approach. Instead of firing blindly, the device performs a skin scan before every single pulse:

Dual-sensor detection reads the melanin concentration in your skin at the exact point of contact. In milliseconds, the system calculates the optimal energy level and adjusts the pulse intensity accordingly. If the sensor detects a skin tone outside the safe treatment range, it won't fire at all.

Adaptive calibration means every flash is personalized. As you move across different body areas , from Inner arm to outer forearm, from bikini line to the upper lip , RPL™ continuously recalibrates. No need to stop and change settings manually.

This is how Sensica can safely extend treatment to skin tones I through V while delivering effective results , something standard IPL devices cannot claim.

Skin Compatibility

Works on skin tones I–IV

Thanks to real-time skin sensing, Sensica's RPL™ devices work safely across Fitzpatrick skin types I through IV , from very fair to olive. The dual-sensor system ensures every pulse is calibrated for your specific skin tone at every point of contact.

RPL is effective on dark hair (black, dark brown, brown) on all compatible skin tones. It is not effective on light blonde, red, grey, or white hair, as these lack sufficient melanin for the light to target.

Common treatment areas include legs, underarms, bikini line, arms, face (below cheekbones), chest, and back. The Sensilight Pro comes with two treatment windows , a large window for bigger areas and a precision tip for smaller, sensitive zones.

Note: Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have epilepsy, active skin conditions, or tattoos in the treatment area. Always follow the device user guide for full safety information.
