RPL™ , Reactive Pulsed Light , is Sensica's patented advancement of traditional IPL technology. While standard IPL devices fire the same pulse of light regardless of where it hits, RPL uses a built-in dual-sensor system to scan your skin tone before every single flash.
In milliseconds, the sensor reads your skin's melanin level and automatically adjusts the energy intensity to the optimal setting. Darker areas receive a gentler pulse; lighter areas receive a stronger one. This real-time reactivity means RPL can safely treat a wider range of skin tones , Fitzpatrick types I through V , while maximizing effectiveness at the hair follicle.

The RPL process
Skin Tone Scan
Before every pulse, the dual-sensor system reads your skin's melanin level. If your skin tone or hair color isn't suitable, the device simply won't flash , providing a built-in safety check with every use.
Energy Adjusts Automatically
Based on the skin reading, RPL instantly calibrates the pulse intensity to the optimal level , strong enough to reach the hair follicle, gentle enough to protect your skin. No manual settings required.
Follicle is Disabled
The calibrated light pulse targets melanin in the hair shaft, heating the follicle and disrupting its growth cycle. Over successive treatments, the follicle produces thinner, finer hair , until regrowth slows dramatically.
Sessions are fast , both legs take about 10–15 minutes with the large treatment window. Smaller areas like underarms or bikini line take just 1–3 minutes. Most users see visible hair reduction after 3–4 sessions, with full results appearing over 8–12 weeks.
Why traditional IPL falls short
Standard IPL devices use a fixed energy output , the same intensity for every flash, regardless of your skin tone or the area being treated. This creates two problems:
On lighter skin: the pulse may not be strong enough to effectively reach darker or finer hair follicles, leading to slow or inconsistent results. Works on skin tones I–IV
Thanks to real-time skin sensing, Sensica's RPL™ devices work safely across Fitzpatrick skin types I through IV , from very fair to olive. The dual-sensor system ensures every pulse is calibrated for your specific skin tone at every point of contact.
RPL is effective on dark hair (black, dark brown, brown) on all compatible skin tones. It is not effective on light blonde, red, grey, or white hair, as these lack sufficient melanin for the light to target.
Common treatment areas include legs, underarms, bikini line, arms, face (below cheekbones), chest, and back. The Sensilight Pro comes with two treatment windows , a large window for bigger areas and a precision tip for smaller, sensitive zones.
