There are two main reasons DIY beauty care is growing in popularity. Firstly, the economy is making all of us to tighten our purse strings, and secondly, it takes precious time to visit expensive beauty spas and clinics. Hence, every type of beauty regime that can be done in the comfort of your own home at a time of your convenience is an increasingly attractive option. That doesn’t mean you have to give up on your dream day at the spa — here are 5 tips to create your own home SPA treatment.
1. Atmosphere is King
One of the best-loved things about a visit to a spa is the relaxing atmosphere. Darken your bathroom and run a hot tub adding bath salts, essential oils, or other ingredients so that you have the benefit of aromatherapy. Turn on your favorite music, light some candles and incense, and make sure you have a fluffy bathrobe at hand — don’t forget those toweling slippers! Pour yourself a glass of wine or make your favorite tea while you wait.
2. Facial Fantasia
Every spa offers a skin treatment so, whilst in the bath work on your face. Exfoliate softly using a facial brush or scrub to clear away dead skin. You can even make your own scrub with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon ground almonds or ground oatmeal, and 1 teaspoon water.
3. The Rub Down
Whilst your body is absorbing the bath steam, your pours are opening up. This is the time to use a loofah or a scrub to exfoliate the rest of your body. Enjoy the experience using slow, circular motions. It will leave your skin feeling silky and healthy.
4. Nourishing Delight
It’s time to get out, dry your skin and start nourishing. Grab your moisturizing body lotion and put on your bathrobe. You’ll also want to moisturize your face using a good cream to end the treatment.
5. The Mani/Pedi
You wouldn’t leave a spa without looking your best from top to toe. Remove your old nail polish, soak your hands in warm water for about 5 minutes, trim and file your nails, gently push back your cuticles, and apply polish.
Your feet should already be soft from your bath, but whilst in the bath, exfoliate your feet well with a pumice stone. Trim your toenails, rounding off the edges to prevent ingrown toenails, and finish with a coat of polish.
Hope you feel completely rejuvenated and ready for the week ahead!
